FAQ
What is the difference between margin and markup?
Margin is profit ÷ selling price. Markup is profit ÷ cost. A $40 item sold for $100 has a 60% margin and 150% markup.
What is a good profit margin?
It depends on the industry; many retailers target 20–50% gross margin, digital products often much higher.
How do I calculate selling price from a target margin?
Price = cost ÷ (1 − margin). For a $40 cost and 60% margin: 40 ÷ 0.4 = $100.
